Toyota is gearing up to unveil the next-gen Toyota Vellfire and Alphard globally in June 2023. Ahead of their debut, a few images have surfaced online that show the exterior and interior design of the third-gen Vellfire MPV and fourth-gen Alphard MPV. Both of these are based on the new Lexus LM that was showcased in April.

    1. Toyota Vellfire, Alphard to have less visual differentiation
    2. Will get a 6-seat layout with reclining seats
    3. Expected to continue with a 2.5-litre hybrid powertrain

New Toyota Vellfire, Alphard exterior design

While both MPVs look largely similar, a few distinct elements set them apart. The Vellfire is shown with a massive grille with large horizontal slats. The grille is accompanied by a large fog lamp housing with chrome surrounds, but it houses small LED fog lamps. Attached to the grille and merging with its elements are the slim headlights housed above the rectangular LED daytime running lamps.

Toyota Alphard sports a slightly different fascia than the Vellfire.

The Alphard has block-like shapes in the grille that are finished in chrome, with a similar design for the LED daytime running lamps. Another difference between the two MPVs is the shape of the fog lamp housing, with the Alphard sporting a smaller, circular unit. While earlier the Alphard and Vellfire had distinct fascias, Toyota has kept the design of the two MPVs largely similar this time.

In profile, the Alphard and Vellfire look identical to each other with the same window line and door design. However, it’s at the rear where the design of both MPVs is different. The Alphard’s tail-lamps have a similar design to the headlights, with block-like shapes, and are connected by a thin chrome strip. On the other hand, the Vellfire's tail-lamps are connected by an LED light bar, with the lamps having a more conventional design.

    New Toyota Vellfire, Alphard interior

The next-gen Vellfire and Alphard will get the same 6-seat layout as the current-gen models with lounge seats and an ottoman. Additionally, it can be seen with overhead controls for passengers in the second row with a sun/moonroof for both. The two MPVs also get a large, free-standing touchscreen for the infotainment system.

The Vellfire and Alphard will get a 6-seat configuration.

The new Lexus LM gets a massive, 48-inch widescreen TV for the rear passengers as an option, but it remains to be seen if Toyota will provide this as an option on the Vellfire and Alphard. Furthermore, being a luxury-oriented version, the LM also gets a four-seat layout with two recliners for the rear passengers. It is unlikely that this set-up will be offered on the two Toyota MPVs.

    New Toyota Vellfire, Alphard powertrain

The next-gen Vellfire and Alphard will get a choice of two engines – a 2.5-litre hybrid and a 2.4-litre turbo-petrol engine. However, their respective power figures haven’t been revealed. Expect the Vellfire to continue with a hybrid engine in India.

    Toyota Vellfire in India

Toyota currently sells the second-gen Vellfire in India for Rs 96.55 lakh (ex-showroom), which is brought into the country via the completely built unit (CBU) route. The next-gen Vellfire is expected to launch in India either in late 2023 or early 2024.
